History
I have always had a love for sports, particularly ones that require hitting a moving object with a racket. The idea for Hexapong came to me after I had friends over to play some ping pong®. Because the traditional table can only accommodate a maximum of four players there was a lot of waiting between games. It wasn’t until I was cleaning my garage and moving my ping pong table that the idea set the light bulb off. By breaking with tradition I thought to add more sides making it more extreme and being able to accommodate more then four players at the same time. From then on, I was obsessed with designing a game that changed the maximum number of players to six and providing more game options then a traditional table tennis table.
The Hexagonal shape was the most effective way for more people to play and still making it possible to maneuver about the extra table surface if only two players were to play against each other.
To make this a multi functional table I added line work to facilitate the creation of special point value areas allowing up to four points that could be won in a rally. Providing three nets with the table allows for different net configurations and associated games that can be played.
As safety features I made the nets spring loaded and rounded edges and corners to reduce any possible serious injuries for the spirited game players.
To the table tennis purist
Hexapong was created with the recreational player in mind. I wanted to get more players involved at the same time and make it challenging too. Hexapong offers people a variety of different ways to play a sport that has not seen a change to the playing surface shape for over 100 years. Hexapong is “NOT” Table Tennis, it is a whole new way of playing.
To the recreational player
Hexapong will not get you into the major league of Table Tennis, but once you learn how to hit hard on the Phoenix Series table, you will not have problems on the traditional table. If you are up for a challenge and are board with just hitting the ball in a rectangular area you will get a kick out of playing the different games of Hexapong.
